The Great Masquerade

The Great Masquerade

Jude 12-13

12 “These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving onlythemselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; 13 raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”
1. The Danger Below the Surface

Verse 12

Colossians 2:8-“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”

2. The Danger of Hiding the Truth

Verse 12

Proverbs 25:14-“whoever falsely boasts of giving is like clouds and wind without rain.

Isaiah 55:10-11-For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

2 Timothy 4:3-4-“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

3. The Danger of not Bearing Fruit

Verse 12

Proverbs 2:22-“But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

Jeremiah 17:7-8-“Blessed is the man who trusts in the lord, and whose hope is the lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Matthew 7:15-20-“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

4. The Danger of No Peace

Verse 13

Isaiah 57:20-“but the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

5. The Danger of Following Fame
