Winning the struggle of sin (Part 1)
Romans 7:13-25
1 John 1:8-“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
1. Let God change your desires
Verses 15, 18, 19, 21, 22
2 Corinthians 5:17-“ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
2. Have the right attitude towards the Law of God
Verses 10, 12, 22
Romans 1:28-32-“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”
Philippians 3:6-“Concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.”
Psalm 19:7-11-“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.”
Psalm 119:97-“Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.”
Matthew 23:23-28-“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”
Hebrews 8:10-“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Psalm 37:31-“The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.”
Psalm 40:8-“I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart.”
