Matthew 5:8
1. The importance of a holy heart
Verse 8
Proverbs 23:7-“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
1 Samuel 16:7-“Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to one and despise the other.”
James 4:4: “Do you not know the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
James 4:8-“Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Matthew 23:25—26: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.”
Psalm 24:3—4: “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.”
2. How to have a holy heart
1 John 1:9-“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:7-“The blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanses us from all sin.”
John 15:3-“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”
Galatians 5:16-“walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
3. The blessing of a holy heart
Verse 8
Psalm 42:1-“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”
