A Good Soldier
Colossians 1:23-29
1. A good soldier remains faithful
Verses 23-25
2 Timothy 3:12-“all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
1 Peter 4:12-14-“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.”
2. A good soldier receives the message
Verses 26-27
1 Corinthians 2:12-14-“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
3. A good soldier completes the mission
Verses 28-29
2 Corinthians 5:17-21-“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
John 14:15–“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Romans 12:14-“So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.”
