A Holy Mouth Does Not Lie
Exodus 20:16
Psalm 58:3-“The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.”
1. Lying dishonors God
Proverbs 12:22-“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.”
Proverbs 6:16-19-“These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.”
Romans 3:4-“let God be true but every man a liar.”
John 14:6-“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
John 17:17-“Your word is truth.”
2. Lying hurts others
Proverbs 10:10-“He who winks with the eye causes trouble.”
Proverbs 25:18-“A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, and a sharp arrow.”
Proverbs 26:28-“A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.”
Proverbs 28:23-“He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue.”
3. Lying ruins your character
John 8:44-“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
Proverbs 11:3-“The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.”
Matthew 12:34-“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
Matthew 15:19-“For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.”
Isaiah 57:11-“And of whom have you been afraid, or feared, that you have lied and not remembered Me, nor taken it to your heart?”
Psalm 34:12-13-“Who is the man who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.”
Revelation 21:8-“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
