The Need for Discipline in Holiness
1 Timothy 4:6-10
Matthew 5:16-“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
1. Guard against the lack of discipline
Verse 1
1 John 2:19-“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.”
2. Make a determination to be disciplined
Verses 7, 10, 15
1 Corinthians 9:24-26-“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
