Clearing up the Confusion

Colossians 1:15-20

1. God of all eternity

Verses 15 and 19

Matthew 1:23-“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us.”

2. Creator and sustainer of the universe

Verses 15b-16

John 1:2-3-“He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

3. Head of the church

Verse 18

Acts 20:28-“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”

4. Conqueror over death

5. Giver of lasting peace

2 Corinthians 5:18-19-“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”
